The only growth we’re seeing under Labour, is in the job centres, I’ll be lucky if I’m still a publican by the next election.
It didn’t take long, did it?.. Just weeks after Rachel Reeves first budget kicked in, we’re staring down the barrel of a bloodbath in British business and the jobs market. Over 109,000 job losses reported in May and guess what, it’s not a coincidence, it’s the result of political fantasy, dressed up as economic policy, only an idiot would have signed this off.
Let’s break it down, Reeves whacked businesses with a triple hit. First, the National Insurance Contributions hike, a removal of much of the business rates relief and to top it all off, a minimum wage rise that sounds lovely on a leaflet, but in the real world, it’s a huge weight tied to the legs of already drowning businesses, especially pubs.
We all want people to earn more, but where exactly do Labour think that money comes from? Do they think we’re hiding a cash machine in the back of the pub? These aren’t just numbers on a spreadsheet, they’re real people losing real jobs, I’ve personally had to cut back shifts to trim the wage bill, how is that good ?!!
I’ve said it time and time again on GB News and I’ve tweeted until my fingers hurt, this was always going to happen…mass job losses were imminent, our prices had to rise, and businesses would be left carrying the can for another round of reckless political virtue signalling.
Let me give you the reality from the pub,£30,000 extra on my costs this year, thanks Rachel, that’s all from this one budget. That’s roughly another £80,000 of turnover I now need to make up just to break even on these added costs, or in simple terms, that’s 14,000 extra pints I need to sell, all in a cost of living crisis and when my punters can barely afford the round they’ve got.
Pubs are on life support, small businesses are on the edge and the Government is pulling the plug while smiling and lying through their teeth for the cameras. Labour MPs and ministers simply do not have a clue, they’ve never run a business, probably never worked a bar shift, never stared at the books wondering how to pay the staff next Monday.
We’ve got a Chancellor who lied on her CV about being an economist, let that sink in, Rachel from accounts has been given the national chequebook and surprise surprise, she’s burning through jobs and growth like a drunk person on a payday night out.
This isn’t about party politics, it’s about survival, these policies are crushing the very backbone of the British economy, the people who employ millions, keep the high streets alive, and give working people a chance.
Small businesses are the foundations of the economy, if we fail, you fail too.
Labour thinks that raising wages is a win, but if the businesses collapse, there’s no one left to pay them. People are out of work and worse off. They think taxing employers is painless, but we just have to pass the costs on…higher prices, fewer jobs, shuttered shops, that’s the real legacy of this budget.
I warned them, so many of us did, but they didn’t listen, they seemingly don’t understand and now, 109,000 people are paying the price…in one month alone.
Reeves said she wanted stability, well, we’ve got it now, stable in decline, stabilised into bankruptcy and locked into utter economic stupidity.
The only growth we’re seeing under Labour, is in the job centres, I’ll be lucky if I’m still a publican by the next election.

Good point. Doesn’t matter if minimum wage is higher if there aren’t any jobs left… leaving us with only colossal companies to work for (if that)
Great article, thanks for the insight.
If you're not a publican hope you get a show on GB News. Always look forward to seeing you on it.
